IUDs are part of the family planning and birth control services that Dr. Robert Edwards offers. IUDs (intrauterine devices) are inserted in a women's uterus to provide birth control. Insertion must be done by a healthcare provider. Many women appreciate the convenience of an IUD, as they can last for years, during which time you never need to remember to take birth control pills or otherwise plan ahead to prevent pregnancy.
Dr. Edwards's office provides both Mirena (an IUD that releases hormones that prevent pregnancy) and ParaGard® (a hormone-free IUD that blocks sperm from reaching and fertilizing an egg). Talk to our office today if you have any questions.
Please note that IUDs are effective in preventing pregnancy, but offer no protection from HIV or STDs (sexually transmitted diseases).
